Look beyond just building new links

The solution to delivering 250,000 to 300,000 people through the Causeway on a daily basis more effectively (Malaysia looking at affordable alternatives to RTS Link Project, April 10) lies in more than just establishing a third or fourth link, as previously suggested by the Malaysian Prime Minister. It is ironic that Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is speaking about "morality" when he wilfully selects and distorts facts about the water agreement (Mahathir urges Johor to speak up against S'pore water pact, March 1). Singapore must become self-sufficient in food

Over the years, I have believed in the importance of water as part of our Total Defence strategy. During World War II, one of the reasons the British army had to surrender was that the Japanese army had turned off the water supply from Johor to Singapore.
