ENDORSEMENT

I endorse Mr Tan Kin Lian (TKL) as a candidate for the Presidency Elections of 2023.

I first knew of TKL in 2008 just after the Lehman Brothers crisis. Thousands of investors were misled into buying the toxic Lehman MiniBond investment product. He detected misconduct on the part of the banks, and stood up for the investors though he was not an investor himself. He educated the investors on the perils of shady investments, rallied the investors, and urged the authorities to do the right thing, which they finally did. The investments were returned to the affected investors. That selfless act won me over.

I backed him as a supporter in the 2011 PE campaign. I believed he is a principled man of integrity who wants to do good for Singapore and its citizens. I spoke briefly in Tamil and English at a rally at Yio Chu Kang Stadium emphasizing his core values viz independence, good governance (transparency and accountability), social justice, and a president who is accessible to all.

Fast forward 12 years. All his core values are repeated in his current campaign. The campaign logo is a symbol of unity and hope. It represents his commitment to building a Singapore where everyone is treated equally regardless of race, language, religion, gender, ethnicity etc. It is a reminder that TKL is running for president to serve all Singaporeans, regardless of their background.

Mr Tan Kin Lian is a People’ President. A President of the People, for the People, and by the People.
