Cost of solar power
How much does it cost to produce 1 kWh of electricity using solar power?

I made some rough calculation as follows:

Cost of solar farm per GW  S$m 2,000
Annual cost amortised 20 years at 4% S$m 142
Add labor and mgt cost at 50% S$m 212
Electricity produced in a year at 30%X365X24 GWh 2,628
Cost p kWh  S$ 0.081
Electricity tariff in SG S$ 0.279

I obtained a cost of S$0.081 per kWh, compared to the tariff of $0.279.

However, my rough calculation is based on some assumptions about the capital cost of the solar farm, amortization period, labor and overheads, efficiency, etc.

Conclusion - electricity produced through a solar farm is now quite competitive.

Projects providing solar power electricity to Singapore:

Project Cost Capacity Per
  US m GW GW

Quantum  5,000 3.5 1,429
Sun Cable 30,000 20.0 1,500
Sunseap   1.4
Total   24.9

The average cost per GW is US$1,500 or S$2,000.
