Use SGQR instead of CDC Voucher
The governments gives $100 in CDC voucher for each household to spend at participating outlets in food centers.
This was quite troublesome as the outlet had to download another app to redeem the vouchers. They find the process to be quite troublesome. Many outlets are unwilling to participate.
I find this CDC voucher to be a bad concept.
Here is a better way to handle the scheme.
a) The customer can download an app and authenticate it with SingPass. The $100 is credited to the e-wallet in the app. This is a similar process to get the CDC voucher, except that the money is credited into the e-wallet.
b) The customer scans the SGQR code that is displayed at the stall and make payment from their e-wallet. This process is similar to making payment from their bank account.
c) Many hawkers already have the QR code set up, so they do not need to go through another complicated process to handle this payment..
d) This will encourage the stall holders to set up the SGQR payment, if they do have not done it previously.
e) After the money in the e-wallet is used up, the customer can transfer money into the e-wallet using PayNow. In the future, they are likely to pay with this e-wallet, instead of cash.
If this approach is adopted, we will encourage more customers and stall holders to adopt digital payment using SGQR.
I hope that the people in charge will consider this approach.
Vote - Do you agree that this is a better approach, compared to the CDC Voucher?
