Covid-19 crisis
Risk of tranmission - local vs imported
Average daily swab tests over the past week: 22,500 Source:
Total cases during the past 7 days 22,500, average per day: 3,217
Source.
Case positivity rate (community): 3,217 / 22,500 = 14.3%
As at 8 Oct 2021, more than 3,100 travelers have entered Singapore on the VTL lanes. Only 2 were tested positive on arrival. Source.
Case positivity rate (travelers) = 2/3100 = 0.06%.
The risk of transmission within the community is 238 times higher than the imported cases (14.3/0.06).
One possible reason for this big difference is that the travelers are likely to be pre-tested as "safe for travel", so the chance of being found positive is low.
