Covid-19 crisis
Give a lottery prize to encourage vaccination
Some countries have introduced a lottery prize to encourage people to get vaccinated.
Some people have suggested that Singapore adopt a similar approach to get the remaining people to be vaccinated.
I do not like this approach.
It encourages people to be socially irresponsible. It will also not work in overcoming the strong objections held by some people against vaccination.
We should continue our efforts in educating people that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risk.
We should also impose a high treatment charge for people who chose to remain unvaccinated and are infected with the virus.
They should also be penalized for flouting social distancing rules while they are unvaccinated.
It is also suitable to give freedom in movement for people who have been fully vaccinated, e.g. with two doses of the vaccine.
We should also provide a choice of the alternative vaccine for people who are skeptical of the mRNA vaccine.
While the vaccinated people may still catch and transmit the virus, studies have shown that the infection is mostly mild within the host and the spread is low.
There may be exceptions, but they are not significant.
I hope that the ministers in charge adopt other measures to encourage vaccination, and not introduce a lottery.

Vote - it is a bad idea to introduce a lottery to encourage vaccination.
