Covid-19 crisis
Not ready to approve the Sinovac vaccine
The director of the National Center for Infectious Disease (NCId) said that there is insufficient data to approve the Sinovac vaccine for use in Singapore.

I find it difficult to accept his reasoning. While he may think that he is quite capable, he should also consider he views of the experts from the countries and World Health Organization which approved the use of Sinovac vaccine.
There are concerns from the public over the use of the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, which were approved in Singapore. These concerns should also be considered, and not brushed aside.
The overwhelming evidence is that Sinovac is suitable to be used. The hurdle appears to be the approach taken by our own health authority.
I suspect that there is a flaw in our decision making process. In many countries, the political leaders will listen to the advice of the professionals and scientists, but they make the final decision.
In Singapore, the political leaders seem to take the approach of avoiding responsibility for the decision.
A more approach approach is to recognize that all the vaccines have their weaknesses and to approve the Sinovac vaccine - by following the practice of WHO and many countries.
Let the public decide on whether they wish to be vaccinated with the mRNA vaccine or with the Sinovac vaccine.
