Covid-19 crisis Current wave of infection
India, Brazil and a few other countries saw a large increase in infections and deaths during the current wave in April. 

However, America and many countries in Europe did not see this big increase. 

What could be the reason?

Some possible reasons are:

a) As America and Europe were badly infected during the winter of 2020, it is possible that some of the vulnerable people have already been infected and have died. The others who survived had developed some immunity.

b) Many of these countries are still under some form of restriction - which accounts for a lower level of spread.

In the case of India, it is strange that they were not badly affected in 2020 and the current wave is much more severe. 

The possible reasons are:

a) The current mutation of the virus is more contagious and severe.

b) Once the infection reached a critical level, it gets out of control.

c) There was a severe lockdown in 2020 which controlled the spread.

Apart from India, some other countries (e.g. Japan, Korea, Thailand) also see a higher spread of infection during the current wave. 

We have to study the statistics more closely and understand the underlying cause.
