How to improve the birth rate in Singapore
The birth rate in Singapore is the lowest in the world. The government has been trying to increase the birth rate through various measures, but the effort has been unsuccessful.

I wish to suggest the following measure be introduced to replace the current incentives.

a. Provide a monthly allowance of $500 for each child (up to a maximum of 3 children) to the mother, until the child reaches age 16.

b. This will attract some women to opt to be home makers, instead of pursuing a diploma or degree.

c. They will get experience in looking after children and house work; later, they can work in the care or food sectors.

More details can be found here.

Additional suggestions added in 2019

d. Provide subsidised child care centers in all neighborhoods, so that they are withing walking distance of the home.

e. Allow foreign spouses who are willing to be home makers to have permanent residency in Singapore

Vote - do you agree with these measures to improve the birth rate?
