Movement for change

Who is calling? What is your telephone number?
Mr X called me. I was not available. I returned the call later in the day.

The call was intercepted by the secretary.

Sec - Mr. X is busy now. Who is calling? Can I ask him to call you back?

TKL - My name is Tan Kin Lian. I am returning a call to Mr. X. He just called me an hour ago.

Sec - What is your name? How do you spell it? What is your telephone number? Can you repeat the number?

TKL - Hello, I am returning a call to Mr. X. He knows who I am and what my telephone number is. Can you just tell him that I return his call?

The secretary thinks that her boss is busy and Mr. TKL had all the free time to spell out his name, letter by letter, and give his telephone number, which she had difficulty in hearing over a poor line. (I was outside and answering on my mobile phone).

The secretary is trained to take care of her busy boss. She does not understand that the other person is also busy.

Her boss, Mr. X, is also inconsiderate. He knew my email address and telephone number. He could have sent me a email or text message, instead of giving me a call - and I still don't know what he wants to talk about.

My experience - we have many inconsiderate people in Singapore.  It is our national culture.
