Some people are thinking of living in Johor to enjoy the lower cost of living.

a) If they are working in Singapore, it can be a hassle to cross the checkpoints every day. With the RTS and joint clearance system, it may less of an obstacle. However, they should live within walking distance of the RTS station (in Bukit Chagar) or in a housing estate with bus connection to the RTS station. 

b) If they have children studying in Singapore schools, it is not feasible for them to live in Johor.

c) Living in Johor may be feasible if they can work remotely or can work in Johor or are retired.

d) For Singaporeans to live in Johor, they need to have permanent residency. There is a MM2H (Malaysia My Second Home) scheme. They have to bring in a certain sum of money into Malaysia and can use it to buy a property.

e) Details of the MM2H scheme are set out in the government website. Link. You can engage a consultant to advise you. This will allow you to live in Malaysia for several years, and subject to renewal.

Living in Johor is likely to be feasible for people who have retired from work or can work remotely and do not have children studying in Singapore.
