Verified profiles
Social media, when properly used, is an excellent platform to share facts, opinions and interaction.
It can also be abused by trolls, haters and scammers.

The authorities should take the following steps
a. Set up a database of verified profiles.
b. Require the platforms to ensure that all posts and comments distributed within the territory are made from a verified profile.
c. Allow the public to report abusive posts or comments.
d. Allow the admin to suspend a verified profile for a certain period.

For example, I would need to verify my profile to make posts and comments in Facebook or other platforms. The verification is a simple step.

Some platforms (e g. Facebook and X) already show the verified profiles now, but they still allow unverified profiles, including fake or malicious profiles, to make posts and comments.
If the authority sets up a database of verified profiles, the database can be used by all the platforms that wish to operate in the territory.

This approach is more effective than the POFMA or POHA laws that were passed in Singapore. These laws did not address the underlying dangers and abuse of social media.
This is a view that I had held for more than two decades.
