Special access card for cross border workers
Malaysia is adopting the QR code system for allowing travelers to pass through the checkpoints on worker buses. The immigration officer goes up the bus with a scanner to scan the QR code shown on the traveler's phone.
The immigration officer will probably not be able to verify that the person holding the QR code is actually the person who is passing the checkpoint. If he have to verify every traveler, it might take a lot of time.
But if I am correct, then the whole exercise of passport checking may be redundant for regular travelers, such as Malaysia workers commuting daily to work in Singapore.
Maybe, we have to take a different approach. The cross border workers should be given a special card. They can move freely from one country to another using a special access lane.
The cross border worker who entered a country on the special card cannot be allowed to leave the country to another destination. He can only be allowed to return to his country on the special card.
With this arrangement, we can remove the passport check (including QR code check) from a large number of regular travelers.
