Upgrade Ez Link card to SimplyGo
I sent this feedback to the Minister for Transport.

Dear Minister,
I wish to give you this feedback as it probably affects a few hundred thousand commuters.
Several years ago, I registered my POSB card to be used as an Ez Link card. I wanted to use it as a spare Ez Link card in case I lost my Passion concession card. I hardly used the POSB card and it now has a balance of about $45.

This morning, I went to the Yio Chu Kang MRT station to upgrade the POSB card to Simply Go. The station officer told me that I need to go to the ticket service office at Ang Mo Kio MRT to withdraw my balance and then register my card to be used for Simply Go.

At the ticket service office in AMK, there was a long queue of about 10 people. I waited in the queue. It took 10 minutes to process the first person. I left the queue as I did not want to wait for 1 hour.

I went to the General Ticketing Machine (GTM) to try and see if I could upgrade my POSB card. I got a message that my bank card will be discontinued from 1 June 2024 and I had to change to a Simply Go card or a contactless bank card. I thought that my POSB card was already a contactless card, as I had been using it regularly to make contactless payment. I was confused and gave up.

Earlier, I had thought that it would be a simple process of marking my registered POSB card in the backend server as a Simply Go card and the balance can continue to be used for this card. This was not the case.

Instead, I had to withdraw my balance first (which would take a long time in the queue). This seems to be complicated and unnecessary.

I get the feeling that the upgrading process is poorly managed and that it is causing many commuters to be unhappy with the transition to Simply Go. If I can be helpful in any way, please let me know.
