Tan Kin Lian - Perspectives Why does LTA want to change to SimplyGo?
At present, LTA operates two platforms:
Ez Link - where the processing is done on the card
SimplyGo - where the processing is done at the backend server. 

It is costly to manage two platforms. It is also costly to update changes to the fares on the Ez Link, as the individual devices have to be updated individually. 

By moving to SimplyGo, LTA will save on the operating expenses. The savings can be huge. 

The current complaint about SimplyGo is that it does not display the fare and card balance. I think that this deficiency can be fixed by increasing the capacity and bandwidth of the backend server used by SimplyGo. 

Even if the deficiency is not fixed, the commuters will get used to it, and learn that it is not a big problem. At present, two thirds of commuters are using SimplyGo (compared to one third that use Ez Link). They have got used to the new system.
