Taxi service in Taiwan and Hong Kong
When I was in Taiwan and Hong Kong many years ago, I got the impression that taxis were easily available and their fares are inexpensive.

I prefer a system where taxi licenses are plentiful and free, and the cost of operating a taxi is low. Unemployed people can make a living by driving a taxi. The taxi fares are low, relative to the cost of owning a private car, and many people do not mind taking a taxi.

By issuing more taxi licenses, we ensure that taxis are easily available and that the drivers do not try tricks to jack up the fares during busy periods.

In the case of Singapore, we can keep taxi rentals low by removing the COE and impose restrictions that the taxis cannot be used as a private car.

I have not visited Taiwan or Hong Kong recently. I do not know if the situation has changed. I am also interested to know the taxi situation in cities in China.
