OpenAI (owner of ChatGPT) aims for a valuation of US$100 billion in their latest funding exercise.

My assessment, and I may be wrong, is that it is worth $10 billion at the most. I cannot see a path for them to earn revenue that can justify such a high valuation.

Their best hope is that Microsoft will be able to use ChatGPT to take market share from Google. I think that it will be difficult, as Google Bard is probably better than ChatGPT.

OpenAI reminds me of the insane valuation given to crypto currencies and to the crypto exchanges. Some of the exchanges, such as FTX, Binance and Three Arrows, have collapsed or suffered large losses.

I may be wrong, but I expect the valuation of OpenAI to come to a more realistic level over the next two years.
