Tan Kin Lian - Perspectives Impact of automation on job opportunities
Here are my views about automation and its impact on the job market. It will lead to some job losses, but will create opportunities for new jobs.

1) ChatGPT
This AI software will help in language translation and in writing of articles. It will improve the productivity of the translators and writers, but cannot replace these workers entirely. The final work needs correction by a person.

2) Security guards - there will be less need for security guards, as some work can be replaced by security cameras and access controls (using passes). There will be jobs for concierge to provide customer service, and also to manage the control center.

3) Restaurants - delivery robots will be deployed in restaurants to deliver food to the table and return the soiled dishes. There will still be jobs for waiters, but they will be assisted by the robots which will do the transport.

4) Self driving vehicles - it may take a few more years for self driving taxis to be accepted. I expect the automation to come earlier with shuttle services that travel a short distance with a few stops.

Some of these changes are already taking place on a small scale. The implementation will be increased in stages over the next few years.
