My view on lowering the voting age to 18 years

I was told that there is a viral message in social media about my view about the voting age.

I was asked in my Facebook Live Stream held on 22 August, whether I support the reduction of voting age from 21 years to 18 years.

I replied that the trend in most countries is to reduce the voting age to 18 years, so there is some merit to do so.

I also expressed a personal opinion that many young people at age 21 or 18 are not aware of the political situation and there is perhaps a merit to increase the voting age. I was just expressing a different point of view that should be considered. I was not advocating an increase in the voting age.

I apologize to the young people that might get the wrong impression of my view. I hope that they will not be misled by negative posts and memes that do not convey the true situation.

I think that the most important matter for young people is that they should look forward to have stable and well paying jobs, lower cost of living and affordable housing.

On balance, and after further reflection, I think that it is better to lower the voting age to 18 years. It is not a perfect answer, but it is probably the right thing to do.
