Certificate of Eligibility to contest the Presidential Election
I am happy to announce that I have received the Certificate of Eligibility to contest the presidential election 2023.
The letter from the Presidential Election Committee said:
The Committee noted that you were the Chief Executive Officer of NTUC
Income Insurance Co-operative Limited for a period exceeding 3 years. Based on the information available to the Committee, it is satisfied that you are a man of integrity, good character and reputation. The Committee is also satisfied, having regard to the nature of your office in NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Limited, the size and complexity of NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative Limited and your performance in the office, that you have experience and ability that is comparable to the experience and ability of a person who has served as the chief executive of a typical company with at least S$500 million of shareholder’s equity and who satisfies Article 19(4)(a) of the Constitution in relation to such service. The Committee is also satisfied that you have the experience and ability to effectively carry out the functions and duties of the office of President.
I thank the Presidential Election Committee for their favorable decision and also, for releasing it a few days earlier. This would enable me to prepare for the campaign earlier and with greater certainty.
My volunteers and I will work hard in the campaign to offer to the people of Singapore the choice of electing an president who is independent of the ruling government. If elected, I will use the office of the president to work with the government on ways to improve the lives of the people, in particular to reduce the cost of living, make housing affordable and have secure and well paying jobs.
I am personally disappointed that Mr. George Goh was not eligible to contest this election. I like to wish Mr. Goh all the best in his future endeavors.

Huh... I though you routinely suggested for George Goh to step down even if he qualified as you believed you would win? Odd that you're now disppointed.

My personal opinion on reasons why I vote Tan Kin Lian for next president
He is the most independent candidate out of the 3, both LKS and Tharman applied via public sector route, think of what you will. I don't want Singapore to be controlled by one ruling party. Some say president has no power, but president has power to influence. LHL once said opposition is good to keep govt on their toes, same can be said for president. TKL is our only chance and only hope. Let's all vote for TKL!!
