Presidential Elec 2023
How to cope with rising health care cost
The best way for the government to help the people cope with the inflationary pressures is to stop fanning the fire.
For example, the government should defer the proposed increase of 1% in GST due in 2024. The amount raised in additional revenue to the government is small, but the impact on prices could be several times higher.
If the increase is deferred, there will be no horrendous increase in prices in 2024.
The government said that the increase is necessary to cope with rising health care cost for an aging population.
I will be able to advice the health minister on how to deal with the problem in a cost effective way. The health care cost does not need to balloon.
There is no need to increase the GST to fund the rising health care cost.
It is important for the people to give me a strong mandate during the presidential election, so that my views will carry greater weight when I talk privately to the ministers on this and other issues.
