Why does Xi Jinping appoint his allies into the Politburo Standing Committee
Many western media reported that Xi Jinping has consolidated his power and appointed his allies into the Politburo Standing Committee, which is the top decision making body of the Communist Party of China.
I find this narrative to be dishonest.
Surely all leaders appoint their allies into the key positions in their government. This is the case with the cabinet of the American President and the UK Prime Minister. They do not appoint their opponents into the key positions.
It is already a big challenge to run any large country. It becomes more difficult, maybe impossible, to run any country if there is constant disagreement among the top ministers in any administration.
If the team appointed by Xi Jinping does not perform, it is up to the Central Committee of the CPC to replace the leader and the team at the end of the term, or maybe earlier.
Xi Jinping and his team is accountable to the higher body, i.e. the Central Committee, and to the country at large, to run the country effectively and achieve the goals that they set out in their plan. If they fail to achieve the goals, they can be replace, and should be replaced.
The system adopted by Xi Jinping is inline with the practice in "democratic" countries around the world. It is not proper for the western media (or a large segment of it) to smear this system.

In a way, you are right to make sure assertion. But, not since the days of Mao has one man concentrate so much power in his hand. To label Xi as a present day dictator is the least we can do.
But it is what next he will do to use such power will have serious consequences for China, but also for Asia. The prognosis going forward is not particularly good.
