A digital signature
We need a digital signature to replace the manual signature that are needed on forms.

The government allows the use of SingPass to be a digital signature. If a person authenticate a transaction with SingPass, it is equivalent to signing the transaction.

We need to allow SingPass to be used for non-government transactions. If this is not possible, we need to use SingPass to authorize another digital signature.

This is how it works.

a) I create a digital signature, identified by a unique ID. I used SingPass to authenticate that unique ID. From that point onwards, the unique ID is used as my signature.

b) When I have to sign an online transaction, I provide the unique ID and have my thumbprint to verify it. This signature is then confirmed to be verified. It will display my name and NRIC.

c) The other party can click on the signature to get further information about the signer, e.g. name, NRIC.,

d) The user can register a 6 digit PIN to be used in case the thumbprint is not available, e.g when the mobile device is lost.

If a digital signature is available, it is possible to use online forms more actively, without the need to download the form, print it, sign, scan and return the form by email.
