Singapore Police Force
Appoint more magistrates to hear simple cases
Someone said.
I have a road bully case pending which was a year ago , I'm very disappointed about how the Police handling the case. It was certainly a crime and a very simple case. I made a report with video attached. The accused admitted he snapped my HP and damage it. Until no, no action was taken. I made several call to the investigating officer but he told me still under investigation. This is the efficiency of Police Force.
This is my perspective. I may be wrong.
A few years ago, the police made a distinction between a civil case and a criminal case. If it is a civil case, the police will not take action. Instead, the complainant is asked to take a civil suit.
In this case, I believe that the police does not wish to pursue the case as a criminal case. They do nothing. I do not know if they told the complainant to take a civil case.
I think that this approach is bad. It is difficult for an ordinary citizen to afford a lawyer to take a civil suit.
The correct solution is to improve the court system, and allow the magistrate (a junior judge) to hear this kind of case and to make a judgment, e.g, to levy a fine on the accused or send the accused to jail.
I am aware that there are many cases to be heard. We just need to appoint more magistrates.
We also need to improve the process, so that these cases are handled with minimal paperwork.

I do not think that it is difficult to appoint many magistrates to handle the number of cases that need to be heard.
I am disappointed with the police force and the administration of law in Singapore. I hope that the minister for home affairs act to improve the situation.
