Covid-19 crisis
Rely on temperature scanning for first level detection of covid
I suggest that we should rely on temperature scanning for first level detection of covid.
This should apply to vaccinated travelers who cross the border. It should also be used for entry to malls, schools, bus interchange and MRT stations.
Temperature scanning was used previously to detect SARS infection. It was also used earlier to detect covid infection prior to the appearance of the PCR and ART tests.
I am aware that people may be infected with covid and do not show symptoms at the early stages. They will not be detected by temperature scanning. It does not really matter, because the infections are mild and will go away on its own. Only a small percentage will develop symptoms, suggesting the infection has reached a severe stage.
Someone said that the temperature scanning is not accurate and that those with a high temperature may not be infected by covid. I agree. It will be useful to apply the PCR or ART test to those with a high temperature. This is the second level check.
The PCR and ART tests are expensive and quite troublesome. There is little value in detecting and isolating the mild cases. We are now in an endemic phase and most people are likely to be infected earlier or later.
I hope that the people in charge will use temperature scanning for the travelers who cross borders.
They should also provide temperature scanning at popular places in Singapore to detect those who have a high temperature and may potentially be infected.
