Problems with China leading to detention of the SAF Terrex vehicles
Singapore's problems with China happened after Lee Kuan Yew passed away on 23 March 2015.

On 12 July 2016, Singapore issued a statement urging all parties to respect the Hague ruling of the South China Sea. This ruling was made in favor of the Philippines and against China.

On 2 August 2016, Lee Hsien Loong gave a speech at the White House, as a guest of President Obama. He cracked jokes about the pollution in China.

On 27 November 2016, China detained the SAF Terrex armed vehicles on transit from Taiwan to Singapore, on the grounds that it breached the port regulations in Hong Kong.

After the detention of the Terrex and the subsequent release, Singapore has been careful not to offend China.
