Covid-19 crisis
How to handle people who chose to be unvaccinated
The government has spent a lot of effort in getting people to be vaccinated against covid-19.
However, some people chose to be unvaccinated for various reasons. Most of these cases are people who believe that the vaccine is more harmful than good.
What can the government do?
I suggest the the following approach:
1. Allow them to remain unvaccinated, if they wish to.
2. They have to pay the hospital expenses (which can be substantial) for treatment of covid. Those who have medical reasons to remain unvaccinated are exempted from paying the charges.
3. There is no need to use vaccination status for entry to restaurants and other places.
There is the risk that they will get infected and spread the virus to other people.
We have to accept this risk. The vaccinated people are already protected. The risk will fall more heavily on the unvaccinated people.
When more people realize the risk, they will choose to be vaccinated.
I have read reports that many people who chose to be unvaccinated change their mind when they become seriously ill after being infected. Let them pay for the cost of the treatment and face the consequence that it may be too late.
It would be wiser for people to listen to the experts, but there is nothing much that the government can do for people who choose to take their own decision.
I believe that people should be free to exercise their choice in this matter, but they have to face its consequence of their decision.
