Covid-19 crisis
Effect of vaccination
The table below shows the local cases during the past 28 days.
Someone observed that the largest category is the vaccinated people. Why are so many being infected, when the vaccination is supposed to stop the infection?
The experts had explained that the vaccination does not stop the infection totally, but will provide protection to the individual from the virus developing into a serious condition. The virus will be mild and will go away after a few days.
The chart shows that among the vaccinated people, 0% of the cases develop into serious cases. Among the partially vaccinated, 2.2% develop into serious cases. Among the unvaccinated, 2.7% develop into serious cases.
Some people argue that if the vaccination does not stop the infection and that over 90% of the infected people will recover anyway, the vaccination does not serve its purpose.
I do not agree with this conclusion. I believe that the data shows that vaccination is useful.
These people, who are anti-vaccination, also point out that the data shows that more vaccinated people are being infected, compared to the unvaccinated people.
The likely reason is that a larger proportion of the population has been vaccinated. 54% of the population has been fully vaccinated and another 21% has been half vaccinated.
There is another perspective that is not shown in the data. It is likely that a high vaccination rate will reduce the spread of the infection, although it does not prevent the spread entirely.
Although the vaccinated people may still spread the infection, the spread is likely to be reduced considerably as the virus is mild. However, this is just a guess, and is not supported by the data.
My conclusion - the data shows that vaccination is useful for the population.
