Covid-19 crisis
Petition to delay the covid jabs for children
A petition was being circulated urging the government to delay the covid jabs for children. It cited an incident in America where a child died after the jab.
I declined to support the petition.
Here is my reason.
This decision has to be taken by the responsible people who have access to all the relevant data, understand the data and are able to weigh the risk and benefit of the various outcomes.
They cannot be made by the author of the petition or the people who vote for it.
It may be a good feature of a free society that people can put up a petition and can vote on that petition.
There are petitions that are not suitable to be voted, due to the nature of the issue. This petition is a case in point.
Nevertheless, there was a positive outcome in this petition. It evoked a response from the Ministry of Health.
While the people have the right to voice their views through a petition or other channels, they should not overlook the responsibility of the government to run the country and address the national issues.
Decisions cannot be determined by gathering the opinion of a crowd of misinformed people.
