Innovation and Competition Act

I support the decision by America to invigorate the technological footprint by spending $200 billion over the next five years. This is now described as the "Innovation and Competition" Act.

Details of the legislation that has passed the Senate is explained here:

America, like any leading economy, must spend in research and technology to keep abreast of the needs of the future.

I regret that the bill is framed on the need to compete with China. There is no need to make China the focus of what should be a necessary effort for America, or any other leading country, should do.

It is a sad reflection of the state of governance and politics in America that it needs a target competitor to get the country to focus on what needs to be done.

I hope that America can improve its governance and be a good example of how a democracy can function for the development of the living standards of its people.
