Covid-19 crisis

Help Malaysia with our excess equipment
I suggested in an earlier post that Singapore should offer to help Malaysia to cope with their covid crisis.

We have beds, partitions and devices that were acquired last year to cope with the infected foreign workers. These equipments are not used for the time being, as the infections had dropped significantly.

If we offer them to Malaysia, they can use them immediately. If they have to buy the products, they will need to wait a few weeks or months for the products to be available, apart from finding the money to pay for them.

About 50% of the viewers of the posts disagreed with my suggestion. What are their possible reasons?

People can think of many reasons why this is not a good idea.

a) Maybe Malaysia does not need these equipments. Maybe, they can find their own solution. Maybe, it is a matter of national pride.

b) Singapore may need these equipments in case our infection rate increases sharply.

Here are my response to these two reasons:

We should look at the positive side. Why not offer them to Malaysia and see if they will accept the offer?

Singapore can set aside the equipment that it may need to cope with an increase of infections, and release the excess for use in Malaysia. In our side, it is a potential need.

In Malaysia's case, it is an immediate and pressing need. It is a matter of life and death to many of the infected people.

We need the ability to think in the interest of all parties, and not focus exclusively on self interest.

Vote - do you agree with my approach?
