Covid-19 crisis
Tan Tock Seng covid cluster
Most people worry about the covid cluster around the nurse in Tan Tock Seng hospital.
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/covid-19-cluster-at-tan-tock-seng-hospital-what-we-know-so-far?
They are afraid that the virus can get out of control and infect many people. They imagine that we could be as bad as in India.
We can look at this episode from a different angle:
a. The nurse infected a few people but not many others that she had been in contact.
b. The infected people did not spread the virus to their own contacts.
c. The handful of cases were detected due to extensive testing of all the staff and patients in the hospital.
d. Although the nurse was vaccinated, she still contracted the virus.
TKL hypothesis. The virus is actually quite widespread (which was how the nurse got infected) but it is mild. A few people will catch the virus and spread it. But the spread virus is still mild.
A few people are more susceptible to the virus due to low immunity. But the majority of the people will not be harmed.
The experts said that we should be "concerned" but not overly alarmed. I agree.
Let us wait to see if things get much worse from here before we panic and impose all kinds of restrictions. It may not be necessary. It may even be more harmful.
CB asked - If TKL is so sanguine, can he explain what is happening in India?
I do not know why the virus is causing so much havoc in India. I saw that the same virus (i.e. the UK virus or the South African virus) is not causing much harm in UK and America now.
I follow the expert. Let us be concerned but not overly alarmed.
