Underground pedestrian walkway
We have 150 MRT stations and 200 km of MRT lines in Singapore.

I suggest that we provide 600 km of underground pedestrian walkway to bring passengers from the nearby areas to the MRT stations, bus interchanges, schools and other public places within the towns.

This will encourage people to walk up to 1 km to the nearby areas. They do not need to cross the roads or climb the overhead bridges.

The underground walkways are ventilated. They keep the people away from the hot sun. It will encourage walking, which is good for health.

What is the cost of 600 km of underground walkways?

I have done some research on the cost of building the walkways, which are 4 meters wide. The cost is about $20 million per km.

The 600 km of underground walkways will cost $12 billion. This is half of the cost of the Downtown Line. It is also less than the cost of the North South highways.

I think that the $12 billion will be well spent and will encourage people to walk within the town, and avoid crossing busy roads and avoid walking in the hot sun or rain.

Do you agree?
