Political systems How to ensure a competent and honest government
It is important to ensure that the government is competent and honest.

How can this objective be realized? I give my views.

1. Appoint the right people to the agencies of the government. These are people who have the interest to serve the public good and not the people who want to look after their personal enrichment or interest.

2. Make sure that the major decisions taken by the agencies are done in a transparent manner. Allow the public to read the minutes of the discussions leading to the decisions and to ask questions.

3. The leaders in these agencies do not need to be the technical experts - as they can engage experts to advise on these matters. But these leaders have to be good decision makers. They need to have the skills to listen, to understand and to exercise good judgment.

However, we have to avoid the politicking and the theatrics that are carried out in the US Congress. They are unproductive.
