Singapore Police Force
Police failed to respond properly to this citizen call for help
I received a call from Mr L, who had called the Police for assistance from being harassed by his daughter. A policeman came to his home, but did not render the assistance that he needed. Mr. L. later learned that the Police had barred his telephone number from calling for further assistance. He called me for help.
Subsequently, I received this report from Mr. L.
REPORT
Dear Mr Tan,
Thank you for your telephone conversation and for agreeing to post a writeup for me on the danger that I faced every day from various harassment committed by my grown up daughter. I want the public to be aware about the heartless response from the Police.
The root of my family problems arose when I obtained citizenship for my wife from Vietnam whom I married 23 yrs ago in 1998. We have an only child now 18yrs old. As my wife was seldom at home due to her working till late nights. I painstakingly raised my daughter practically by myself despite my debilitating hip condition and severe osteo-arthritis leading to avascular necrosis (bilateral collapsed hip-joints).
Because of my being a top science student in GCE O level exams in 1971, I inspired and tutored my child till she obtained top grades in all her subjects at GCE O level exams in 2017.
My wife tried to divorce me in 2016 but was dismissed in family court in 2018. Her appeal was dismissed in the high court in 2019. Her motive was to get 70% of the matrimonial flat as demanded in her divorce suit.
My wife encouraged my teenage daughter to turn against me in order to win custody of my daughter and get 90% share of the matrimonial flat.
I have alerted the Police to the underlying root of violence against me. The Police ignored my plight. My daughter had caused me a lot of heartaches, tears and safety issues that can be very costly to life and property. She now blocks the doorway with clutter and keeps the doors wide open till past midnight every night thus posing alarming risks and dangers as there are men who come by past 10 pm to drop sales leaflets.
The Police have even barred my phones from calling them for help for several hours on 5th of July 2020 till abt 2.30am when I faced distress despite my court PPO (person protection order) being breached.
I am now desperately in need of help as even my Teck Ghee RC Chairman and even my community centre have not responded to my calls for help, even when the RC grassroot volunteers are my neighbours!
As you can see from my email, even the HDB and SCDF are strangely not enforcing their fire rules for the safety of residents, particularly the vulnerable disabled seniors like me. I enclose some videos for your understanding of the situation
Please share them publicly to elicit my concern about the negligence of the Police towards a vulnerable and underprivileged poor person.... which only aggravates my family situation to embolden my child to take law into her own hands to abuse me.
One video showed my daughter confessing how the Police had emboldened her to harass me without fear of arrest by the Police! That is the extent of Police mishandling of this matter.
As I suffer in fear, trauma and benign negligence at home, I welcome any help to resolve my problem. My worst fear is the impending divorce which may result in my flat being sold and making me homeless, while I suffer my painful disability.
End of report
