Buying a Dell All-in-One Computer
My 10 year old computer in my home died. I think the display board failed, but it could be replaced. As it was quite old, I decided that it was time to buy a new computer.

I had been a customer of Dell for many years. Naturally, I searched their website for their latest model.

I saw an offer for the Dell OptiPlex 7470 All-in-One computer. I read the specifications. It looked good.

I searched the internet for reviews on YouTube and in text. I decided that it was suitable and satisfactory.

There was a review of the top five recommended AIO computers and Dell was not mentioned. I suspect that this model came after the review.

The offer price was $1,540. It was satisfactory.

I had a few questions about the options. I decided to call Dell.

The listed telephone number led me to the usual "terrible" call center with pre-recorded messages. I abandoned it immediately.

There was an option for a chat. I had to answer a few questions. For type of enquiry I chose "Customer Care". The form did not respond. When I chose "Sales", it responded immediately.

Someone called X replied to the chat. I asked X if we could talk over the phone. X replied - Yes. I gave my mobile number. X replied that he would be calling from Malaysia.

I suggested that X call me on WhatsApp to save on telephone charges. X suggested Zoom. I agreed. That was arranged. X turned out to be a woman in the Dell call center in Penang.

The package had 1TB of hard disk. What about SSD? That would be additional. It would add another $250 making a total of $1,800.

I asked a few other questions on their options and decided that it was not necessary. I asked X if she had to meet a quota and if my order could be put under her code. She was delighted.

She said that she can offer a better price and would send the quotation to me. I received it shortly.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the price. $1,400. I checked the specification and confirmed that it is the same model and had the 1T hard disk and 250 M SSD included.

I accepted the quotation and paid through internet banking to Dell Singapore.

The service provided by the consultant is excellent. I get a better price as well.

Strange. It is better to order through a sales consultant, rather than online.
