Covid-19 crisis
The government has lost the balance
I received this feedback from Mr. Fong
Dear Tan,
While many had applause the government for the CB measures. I think that the government has lost the balance.
Many workers who were tested healthy are still in quarantine. These workers should be allowed to work under close monitor. The majority of the public doesn’t need to be lock down.
However, measures such as mask wearing and reasonable social distancing needs to be followed. the extended CB is not necessary. if the government tested 8000 workers/ day. It will mean that only approximately 10 percents of the tests were positive. The rest should be allowed to go back to work under close monitoring.
The government was attacked for providing poor living condition to the workers. In my humble opinion, the living condition is as good as the housekeeping of the occupant. Some of the people who claims the living condition is bad for migrant workers are middle income families and some grassroots.
These are the people who assume every family has a car (some has 2), everyone in Singapore sleeps in air-conditioned rooms. People who lives in a large house meaning they must be very rich. the government could send the workers to live at vacated buildings. But the some middle class people thinks that there should be wifi and other facilities. they seems to forget that many singaporeans folks are living without wifi too.
in such measures, it is not about providing entertainment. It is about containing the virus. similarly, many of these vacant buildings are locating in the heart lands, people might no be happy about it. But as leaders, we have to tell these residents that it all boils down to dollars and cents. We can squander the money or we can manage it.
In conclusion, I find that the government is now toppling the country.
Fong
