Covid-19 crisis High number of covid-19 cases in America
America has the highest number of cases and deaths of covid-19 among all the countries in the world. It has 1.3 million cases and 78,000 deaths as at 8 May 2020.

Why is the number so high?

I suspect that, in some countries, the deaths are reported as covid even though the patients may have died from other causes. They are recorded as covid deaths as long as there is some evidence of suspicion that the patient might have been infected.

There could be a financial incentive for the hospitals to report more covid deaths. 

In America, the hospital can claim 20% more under Medicare from the government if it is certified as a covid case. See this report. Although there is no evidence that the hospitals have committed this questionable act, the suspicion is high.

A similar situation could exist in other countries. 

I look at this pandemic with a degree of skepticism. I suspect that the alarming figures could be exaggerated and that the public is not getting reliable information.
