Covid-19 crisis

Government act like money see, monkey do

Mr Tan
My own flawed personal take on CoVid-19. I believe governments around world are likely acting like monkey see monkey do. They are using a sledgehammer to drive in a small nail.

All the measures taken are not going to eradicate the virus and that would only be possible with mass vaccination which is at least 1 or more years away. .

Even though trial vaccines are going to be available soon. In the end, what we are observing is the general population is acquiring "herd immunity".

Some deaths we can prevent but not all. Its the same with any diseases.

I always ask myself, why is our government spending more than $60 billion dollars saving a few lives from Covid-19 virus but they for the longest time did almost doing from deaths and morbidity from smoking and worse to innocent by stander from second hand smoke.

I can only come to one conclusion because there is political mileage in the former.

Secondly, the fall out from the over reacting government is going to be worse than the disease. The country literally grind to a halt for several weeks and then months.

Without economic activities, everyone from the destitute to the rich will be affected one way or another.

We are "bailing out" lots of big MNCs but little is done for the SME which is the backbone of our economy. How does forcing employer to landlord to pass saving from property tax which often comes up to a few dollars going to help our SMEs? See more of a publicity stunt.

Thirdly, where are we going to find more than $60 billion to return to our reserve.

What happens if there is another catastrophical event such as a recession or depression or even worse another form of virus pandemic? Fourthly, this pandemic exposes or questioned our leaders vision, eg increasing our population to 10 million when a government official stated that we are the densest city on Earth apart from Monaco?
