Provide housing for Malaysian workers
The Malaysian government decided to implement a travel ban to and from Malaysia to combat the spread of the corona virus. This has affected 300,000 workers living in Malaysia and working in Singapore.

It highlights a problem that has existed for a long time, even before this travel ban.

Each day, 300,000 workers travel from Johore to work in Singapore and return in the evening. They have to spend several hours to clear through the checkpoints each day. They live a poor quality of life.

A longer term solution is to provide housing for these workers at affordable rates in Singapore. They can live and work in Singapore during the weekdays and return home to their families during the weekends.

We can build dormitories for their use and levy a rate that is affordable. We can also make it easier for them to rent rooms in HDB flats and give income to the flat owners.

Many Malaysians are already living in rented HDB flats or rooms. The 300,000 are those who could not find the suitable flats to rent in Singapore. Perhaps, we should improve the system for them to rent the rooms.

We can also build dormitories for rental to these workers - if they cannot find a suitable owner who can rent out a room.

Vote - do you agree that more can be done to find housing for the Malaysian workers in Singapore?
