How to use automation and artificial intelligence without causing unemployment
Will automation and artificial intelligence lead to severe job loss? Will self driving buses cause drivers to be jobless? Will cleaning robots result make cleaners jobless?

I like to suggest an approach for the advanced technology to lead to improved living standards and still offer job opportunities.

I suggest that when buses become self driving and does not require drivers, jobs can be created for conductors. Their duty is to ensure that passengers tap their fare cards when boarding and alighting the bus. They can also provide information and assistance to the passengers.

The heavy duty of driving a bus can be taken over by artificial intelligence. Useful jobs can be created for conductors who can do the work with less stress. They can also work on half day shifts. These jobs are suitable for older workers, who may find it difficult to compete in other jobs against younger workers.

The heavy work of a cleaner can be taken over by an automated trolley. A battery can move the trolley. The wiping of the table and the collection of plates and utensils can be done by a person. The work can be made less strenuous.

The work of a security officer in a residential or office premise can also be made easier with technology. It can be made suitable for older workers who work on half day shifts.

There is a further advantage in using this approach of combining artificial intelligence with human brains.

The cost of developing the technology can be reduced considerably, if some of the complex and light work can be done by people, rather than the machine. The artificial intelligence does not need to be very complex. It will be cheaper to develop.

It is possible to use technology, in the form of automation and artificial intelligence, to improve living standards and create new jobs to replace the old jobs.
