Covid-19 crisis
Measures to stop the spread of the virus
Under code orange, the govt implement the following strategies to stop the spread of the virus:
a) Have workplaces implement temperature scanning
b) Record contact details for contact tracing.
A lot of work is done, but I sense that these measures are not effective. What are better ways to stop the spread of infection?
I suggest these ways:
a) Implement temperature scanning at public places - MRT stations, bus interchanges, markets, malls. Issue a sticker to each scanned person. This sticker is valid for 3 days.
b) If a person has high temperature, allow the person to to through a first level check for Covid-19 at designated clinics (specially equipped to deal with this virus) free of charge. If confirmed to have the virus, get the patient to be admitted to specially equipped hospitals. All expenses are borne by the state.
c) Provide hand sanitizers at all public places. Employ workers to go round and ensure that these sanitizers are filled all the time.
The expenses of implementing these measures will be much lower than the measures that are now implemented under code orange (taking the cost incurred by all worksites to implement temperature scanning and contract tracing). The new measures should be more effective in stopping the spread of the virus.
It is better for the state to take the lead and bear the cost, rather than adopt a decentralized approach which will cost more and give poorer results.
