Covid-19 crisis
Be prepared for the economic impact
Many Singaporeans are worried about the Wuhan crisis. 100,000 have signed a petition asking the government to stop the entry of people from China. The govt has now implemented this temporary ban.
They are now asking for temperature checks for travelers visiting from Johor.
I hope that our people are prepared for the economic impact that will follow the measures that are being taken.
We can expect the tourism sector to be affected badly. This will impact hotels, restaurants, shops, guides, transport operators, airlines. Many jobs will be lost, hopefully temporarily.
The displaced workers will have to cut down on their spending. This will in turn affect the domestic sector.
How serious will it be? It can be quite serious. It can spiral out of control.
Should we suffer this pain to stop the spread of the Wuhan virus? Yes, we should take the necessary measures and avoid the extreme measures. Remember, the extreme measures come with a high cost and a lot of pain. Are they necessary?

Vote - should we think rationally and avoid taking extreme measures at this time?
