Out of the box Self driving vehicles
I read some news that Tesla will soon be launching self driving trucks for transportation of goods. 

Think of it, it is an excellent idea. The autonomous trucks can be used for long distance travel on highways. They can travel at a safe speed and does not need to be at a fast speed. It would be easier to program an autonomous vehicle to run on a fixed route, rather than to deal with many unforeseen variables.

A similar statement can be made to use autonomous vehicles for public transport. They also run on a fixed route and can be programed accordingly. They can also operate at a slow, safe speed. There is no need to hurry. 

I expect the autonomous bus to be operating soon. I understand that there is a study to introduce them in Singapore. I wish them success in this effort.

We can also introduce autonomous buses to provide a local service. It can cover the residential and commercial areas around a train station or bus interchange. 

The autonomous private car can wait. It is not that important. Let us get the autonomous bus operating first.

I hope that our land transport planners have the right vision to plan for the use of these autonomous vehicles.
