Improve timing at pedestrian crossing
I use the pedestrian crossing at Yio Chu Kang Road, before KLC International, almost daily.

After pressing the button, I often have to wait for 1 or 2 minutes before the green man appears. During this waiting time, the road may be clear of traffic, and yet the green man does not appear.

I suspect that the crossing uses a complicated algorithm to decide on when to stop the oncoming cars. Apparently, the algorithm takes into account the traffic lights down the road. This complicated algorithm does not appear to work well.

Surely, if the road is clear or the oncoming cars are at a distance, the light should appear to stop the oncoming cars?

I have seen the crossing near Bishan North Shopping Mall. The green man appears within 30 seconds. This is sufficient time to stop the oncoming cars.

If we are to encourage pedestrians to use pedestrian crossings, surely the waiting time for the green man must be reduced to 30 seconds or 1 minute.

The exceptions are when the road is heavy with traffic and the crossing had been activated recently. The pedestrians would understand.

KBW - are you listening?
