A platform for official messages
We need a platform for official messages from govt agencies and businesses. It has to be a separate platform from the social media.

Let me illustrate the problem and what should be done to address it.

I saw this message from the Singapore Armed Forces. They sent SMS to their serviceman and had to clarify that the message is genuine. It seems that the message could be forwarded by the recipients and modified causing unclarity on the authenticity of the messages.

I suggest this approach to deal with this kind of problem.

a) There is a separate platform for official communication from govt agencies and businesses.
b) Messages sent through this platform should be from registered users who are authenticated. This will create certainty about the identity and the authenticity of the sender.
c) All messages should be one way. It should not result in a two way communication, which is the characteristic of social media.
d) The messages are similar to the traditional letter that is sent from a govt agency or business, except that the traditional letter is now replaced by an electronic medium.
e) Advertising should be disallowed.
f) Misuse of this platform through impersonation should be punished similarly to intentional fraud.

It will be useful for a person to sign into this platform and receive all the official communication from the govt and the business that they deal with. It should replace the traditional letters that are sent to their mail boxes. The recipient will have the confidence that the communication is official and not fake.
