Transport Operators High fees payable by retailers
I spoke to a person who provides service to help a retailer to install a EZ Link terminal to collect payment using the EZ Link card.

He told me that the monthly charge to rent a EZ Link terminal is $100 or more (he is not sure about the actual charge). There is also a transaction fee that is based on a percentage of the amount (he is not sure about this percentage).

He said that many retailers find this cost to be too high. I agree.

No wonder cashless payment does not take off in Singapore.

We should provide a cheaper solution. We can develop a mobile app that allows the retailer to read the EZ Link card and make the deduction. The usage charge should be fixed at 5 or 10 cents per transaction.

I am not still looking for the actual charges. I could not find it in the EZ Link website.
