Last stage of Circle Line cost $4.85 billion
I was shocked to read the cost of constructing the last stage of the Circle Line. The sum of $4.85 billion is staggering. How can the Ministry of Finance allow such a large sum to be spent?

Quote:

SINGAPORE - In yet another sign that transportation expenditure is soaring, the sixth and final stage of the Circle Line will cost $4.85 billion - more than half the total cost of the first five stages of the orbital MRT line.

At this year's Budget, it was revealed that the 4km Circle Line 6 (CCL6), which will make the Circle Line a complete circle, will cost $1.2 billion per kilometre or five times the average per-km cost of the first five stages spanning 33km.
Unquote:

If the price is so high, surely this can be avoided? Do we really need this last stage of the Circle Line? We can have done without it. There are other more cost effective ways to provide transport to this part of the city.

Our infrastructure cost is spiraling out of control. We are spending far too much on infrastructure.

Some of the available funds could be spent in other ways, e.g. to reduce the cost of living, to defer the proposed increase in GST, to give better financial assistance to families in need.

Vote - It is too wasteful to spend this large sum of money on the last stage of the Circle Line.
