Ministry of Law
Difference between fake news and opinion
If I say - Singapore has among the highest cost of living in the world, can any minister challenge me and ask me to remove this statement as it is "fake news"?
The minister may argue:
a) The high cost of living applies only to expatriates
b) The high cost of living does not apply to all locals
c) The high cost is due to personal choice and consumption
If I were asked to remove my statement, what can I do? I do not want to go through the hassle and cost of appealing to the court.
I suggest that the fake news law be administered as follows:
a) Appoint an independent administrator to determine what is fake news
b) The administrator should act only on deliberate fake news that have a big impact.
c) Allow appeal to an independent panel
d) Make the decisions of the administrator transparent and allow public scrutiny
Please vote below - do you agree with my suggestions (4 points).
