Police act on harmless remarks
It was reported that 2 men are assisting the in police investigations about their online comments that they would like to throw egg(s) at Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam.
Like any other citizens, it will be totally understandable if Shanmugam feels that his life is under threat and he makes a police report. In such circumstances, there is nothing wrong for the police to conduct investigations and take appropriate subsequent actions such as issuing warnings.
But at the end of the day, our sense and proportion of such things must never get carried away. In this particular case, one of them commented that they wanted to throw egg(s) at Shanmugam while the other person offered to supply the egg(s).
I asked myself: If anybody seriously wanted to harm the minister, would he announce his intention publicly online for the world to know? The answer is obvious. Furthermore, is there anyone who has been hurt before by those egg throwing comments?
Obviously, nobody was hurt by those comments - except maybe Shanmugam's ego and pride.
Ultimately, I would like express my opinions as a concerned private citizen. Our police resources, police efforts and police time are precious and scarce and they should not be used this way.
